MIDSUMMER’S EVE

110 cm (43.3 “)

Oil on wood

“Midsummer’s Eve” is a painting that brings out the beauty of cornflower, which is usually hidden in the meadows and grain fields. To me the cornflower is a symbol of the magical time of the Midsummer, the longest day/shortest night of the year.
I come from Latvia where the Midsummer celebration is deeply rooted in our culture. There is something really special about this time, the air feels different. It is filled with the aliveness of summer, it feels magical, yet also very grounded and still.

So my intention with this painting was to encapsulate that enchanting feeling..
